James Longstaffe, piano / principal repetiteur
James Longstaffe is researching a D.Phil. on the film music of John Williams
at Christ Church, Oxford, studying with
Peter Franklin. Other musical interests include opera, 19th-Century German music
and 20th-Century American music. He is principal tuba with the Oxford University
Orchestra, Oxford Chamber Orchestra, Oxford Symphony Orchestra, Oxford
University Sinfonietta and Christ Church
Festival Orchestra. In addition, James is a busy accompanist and repetiteur:
he was principal repetiteur for Oxford Millennium Opera's 2006 The Marriage
of Figaro, as well as Oxford Touring Opera's Cosė fan tutte (2006)
and La Traviata (2007), and is Music Director for their forthcoming L'italiana
in Algeri. He is also principal accompanist for the choir of Blackbird Leys,
featured on the Channel 5 television programme The Singing Estate, and is
conductor of the Orchestra of Oxford, set up by him 2007, whose debut concert of
music by Wagner and Rachmaninov was greated with music acclaim.
